Narrative:

En route to jfk on the camrn 2 STAR, we were told to cross hoggs intersection at FL190. I thought the controller said karrs intersection at FL190 which is 21 mi past hoggs intersection and planned the descent accordingly. Approximately 15 mi from hoggs intersection and 280 KTS the controller asked if we had started our descent to which we stated that we had. We crossed hoggs intersection at 230 KTS to which the controller told us we were too high, and to change frequency to another controller. The copilot said he didn't realize I was using karrs intersection as the crossing restr and that he was not paying attention to the crossing restr distance from sei. Normally we have good cockpit communication, but obviously not this time. In the future we will need to confirm all clrncs between the crew and if in doubt ask the controller.

Title: CORP LTT MISINTERPRETS CLRNC, MISSES XING RESTR.

Narrative: ENRTE TO JFK ON THE CAMRN 2 STAR, WE WERE TOLD TO CROSS HOGGS INTXN AT FL190. I THOUGHT THE CTLR SAID KARRS INTXN AT FL190 WHICH IS 21 MI PAST HOGGS INTXN AND PLANNED THE DSCNT ACCORDINGLY. APPROX 15 MI FROM HOGGS INTXN AND 280 KTS THE CTLR ASKED IF WE HAD STARTED OUR DSCNT TO WHICH WE STATED THAT WE HAD. WE CROSSED HOGGS INTXN AT 230 KTS TO WHICH THE CTLR TOLD US WE WERE TOO HIGH, AND TO CHANGE FREQ TO ANOTHER CTLR. THE COPLT SAID HE DIDN'T REALIZE I WAS USING KARRS INTXN AS THE XING RESTR AND THAT HE WAS NOT PAYING ATTN TO THE XING RESTR DISTANCE FROM SEI. NORMALLY WE HAVE GOOD COCKPIT COM, BUT OBVIOUSLY NOT THIS TIME. IN THE FUTURE WE WILL NEED TO CONFIRM ALL CLRNCS BTWN THE CREW AND IF IN DOUBT ASK THE CTLR.
