Narrative:

We received our clearance via pre departure clearance (ACARS). The screen read clt-robay-hmv sadie transition. We flew to robay intersection then turned direct hmv. Per flight plan and pre departure clearance clearance ZTL informed us that our strip showed that we should have flown over sadie. The confusion occurred due to the presentation of the script from pre departure clearance. Robay intersection is along route of sadie transition. If clearance changes a routine, they should inform pilots via voice. Also, we should have checked it out. When it doubt, check it out! Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporting captain states that the company flight planned clt-robay-hmv. The crew failed to note the change to go over sadie. Robay is en route to sadie, so the clearance should have been HOR3-sadie, not HOR3-robay-hmv sadie transition. The crew now regrets not having cleared up the confusion. It also wishes that there might be a better way to highlight any changes in the field flight plan other than a subtle dash on the ACARS screen. The ACARS saves 20 pages of information, so that there is no way that a crew can erase its flight plan.

Title: AN ACR MLG CREW MISREAD ITS PREDEP CLRNC AND ATTEMPTED TO TURN TOO SOON.

Narrative: WE RECEIVED OUR CLRNC VIA PDC (ACARS). THE SCREEN READ CLT-ROBAY-HMV SADIE TRANSITION. WE FLEW TO ROBAY INTXN THEN TURNED DIRECT HMV. PER FLT PLAN AND PDC CLRNC ZTL INFORMED US THAT OUR STRIP SHOWED THAT WE SHOULD HAVE FLOWN OVER SADIE. THE CONFUSION OCCURRED DUE TO THE PRESENTATION OF THE SCRIPT FROM PDC. ROBAY INTXN IS ALONG RTE OF SADIE TRANSITION. IF CLRNC CHANGES A ROUTINE, THEY SHOULD INFORM PLTS VIA VOICE. ALSO, WE SHOULD HAVE CHKED IT OUT. WHEN IT DOUBT, CHK IT OUT! CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTING CAPT STATES THAT THE COMPANY FLT PLANNED CLT-ROBAY-HMV. THE CREW FAILED TO NOTE THE CHANGE TO GO OVER SADIE. ROBAY IS ENRTE TO SADIE, SO THE CLRNC SHOULD HAVE BEEN HOR3-SADIE, NOT HOR3-ROBAY-HMV SADIE TRANSITION. THE CREW NOW REGRETS NOT HAVING CLRED UP THE CONFUSION. IT ALSO WISHES THAT THERE MIGHT BE A BETTER WAY TO HIGHLIGHT ANY CHANGES IN THE FIELD FLT PLAN OTHER THAN A SUBTLE DASH ON THE ACARS SCREEN. THE ACARS SAVES 20 PAGES OF INFO, SO THAT THERE IS NO WAY THAT A CREW CAN ERASE ITS FLT PLAN.
