Narrative:
Became lost and low on fuel. Stopped for gas at an airport which supposedly had fuel but none was available. I recomputed location and departed for the next closest airport with fuel, but due to the heading indicator not being aligned with the magnetic compass, I again was unable to determine my location. The airplane ran out of fuel and I landed in a field in stewart, ms. Basically, I panicked and was unsure what to do when initially becoming lost. I am aware of the actions I should have taken.
