Narrative:

After departing ckb under ATIS information, I proceeded to way via LORAN C. Approximately 3 mi south of way, the WX dropped. I decided to try to go underneath the IMC. Seeing that I could not I started as left 180 degree turn back to ckb. I then noticed that my altitude was very low I started to ascend approximately 90 degree into my turn, I clipped a guidewire on tower. I looked at my left wing and saw that a portion of the wing was missing. I then applied full power and tried to climb unable to gain sufficient height to proceed back to ckb. I chose to land at way. I found my bearing to the airport by LORAN 'C' and by VOR radials that I knew would take me to way. After locating way I made a normal descent to land. In hindsight I probably could have made my 180 sooner and paid closer attention to my altitude. And as far as going back to ckb. The yaw on the plane cause by the drag of the left wing called for full right rudder to keep straight and level flight. I feel that I made the best decision possible after striking the tower's guidewire and I am thankful that no one was hurt and that the plane was landed safely.

Title: PVT PLT OF SMA ACFT STRUCK A XMITTER TWR GUIDE WIRE DURING MISSED VISUAL APCH TO AN UNCTLED ARPT RESULTING IN CUTTING OFF A PORTION OF ONE WING.

Narrative: AFTER DEPARTING CKB UNDER ATIS INFO, I PROCEEDED TO WAY VIA LORAN C. APPROX 3 MI S OF WAY, THE WX DROPPED. I DECIDED TO TRY TO GO UNDERNEATH THE IMC. SEEING THAT I COULD NOT I STARTED AS L 180 DEG TURN BACK TO CKB. I THEN NOTICED THAT MY ALT WAS VERY LOW I STARTED TO ASCEND APPROX 90 DEG INTO MY TURN, I CLIPPED A GUIDEWIRE ON TWR. I LOOKED AT MY L WING AND SAW THAT A PORTION OF THE WING WAS MISSING. I THEN APPLIED FULL PWR AND TRIED TO CLB UNABLE TO GAIN SUFFICIENT HEIGHT TO PROCEED BACK TO CKB. I CHOSE TO LAND AT WAY. I FOUND MY BEARING TO THE ARPT BY LORAN 'C' AND BY VOR RADIALS THAT I KNEW WOULD TAKE ME TO WAY. AFTER LOCATING WAY I MADE A NORMAL DSCNT TO LAND. IN HINDSIGHT I PROBABLY COULD HAVE MADE MY 180 SOONER AND PAID CLOSER ATTN TO MY ALT. AND AS FAR AS GOING BACK TO CKB. THE YAW ON THE PLANE CAUSE BY THE DRAG OF THE L WING CALLED FOR FULL R RUDDER TO KEEP STRAIGHT AND LEVEL FLT. I FEEL THAT I MADE THE BEST DECISION POSSIBLE AFTER STRIKING THE TWR'S GUIDEWIRE AND I AM THANKFUL THAT NO ONE WAS HURT AND THAT THE PLANE WAS LANDED SAFELY.
