Narrative:

Climbing through 16000 MSL we were directed to stop our climb at 16000 ft. We topped out at around 16800 ft and noticed another aircraft below us on the TCASII. Min separation was approximately 500 ft vertically and 3 NM horizontally. We used the TCASII to assist us in maintaining separation in our descent back to 16000 ft. TCASII was a great aid. Supplemental information from acn 224794: our aircraft closed on traffic ahead on departure. Climb was restr to 16000 ft. Climbed above this due to rate of climb.
