Narrative:

On approach to 9L at pbi, in the vicinity of OM, we received a TA on TCASII and shortly thereafter received an RA. The command was to climb, which we did. Inbound to the OM we were at 2000 ft and we climbed to 2300 after receiving the RA. When a clear of conflict was received we continued the approach and landed with no further incident. We did not see the intruding aircraft. As to why this may have been a close encounter, the proximity of 9L and 9R at pbi and other airports with close parallel runways, and the mix of transport aircraft and single engine aircraft is an open invitation to a midair collision, regardless as to how proficient the approach controllers are, or how vigilant the air crew are.
