Narrative:

We were at 6000 ft being vectored for the approach. The controller said he had traffic and told us to climb. As soon as he said that, we had a TCASII alert which told us to descend. Told this to the controller, and he said 'ok, then descend!' within a few seconds, we had a visual and a clear of traffic. The controller had us just continue descent and proceed as normal.
