Narrative:

Dispatched with #1 engine B fire detection loop inoperative. At 37000 ft 80 NM from ord, a loop indicated fire. Silenced bell and upon request from captain initiated engine fire checklist. Upon engine shutdown fire indication ceased. While reading amplification and 'cleaning up' the flight engineer's panel, the light on the fire pull handle relit both fire extinguishers were discharged the checklist reread. Landed at ord runway 14L without incident. The fire crew inspected left side of aircraft for evidence of fire and found none. Taxied to gate without incident. No injuries or damage.
