Narrative:

As I came out of reverse at 80 KTS I heard a pop (backfire) from the left side. The #2 engine would not come out of reverse. As I exited the runway the tower noticed flames coming from the #2 engine. At that time I noticed the #2 engine had spooled down, the overtemp light illuminated. I placed the #2 start lever to cutoff and the so motored the engine. The temperatures came down and we taxied to the gate. The first officer asked ground control if there were still flames, I believe they said no, but we're going to send the fire trucks out anyway. When I spoke to maintenance they said after looking at the engine they felt it had not been overtemped.
