Narrative:

During climb out from cle, the roll monitor light came on accompanied by a gyroscope flag in the first officer hdi. This lasted for just a few seconds, then returned to normal. As the flight progressed, this condition repeated. I determined the first officer vertical gyroscope failed. I called dispatch and decided stl WX was unsuitable with the loss of the first officer's vertical gyroscope. With dispatch concurrence, we changed our destination to ind which was reported clear. Maintenance fixed the problem. The continuation of flight X from ind to stl was uneventful.
