An medium large transport air carrier crew found a problem with their rudder on taxi out. Maintenance found that the rudder power lever had not been put in its proper place after a maintenance check. The cockpit crew had not seen this on their preflight.

Narrative:

During taxi rudder check was stiff and restr. Returned to gate and called maintenance. Rudder power lever was found off. Resumed normal flight. This aircraft just came out of maintenance check and several switches were found in wrong position. We missed this one. Lesson learned to be especially careful when aircraft comes out of maintenance check.
