Narrative:

During landing rollout in FOD, iowa, a deer ran from the right infield onto runway 6. In effort to avoid the deer I brought the aircraft into full reverse and applied maximum braking. However the deer hesitated, changed directions and we struck the deer on the left side of the aircraft. The left engine was vibrating badly so we proceeded to shut it down immediately. After safely deplaning the passengers, we found substantial damage to the propeller blades and damage to the cowling below the engine. I believe the crew did everything possible to avoid the deer, followed proper procedures and handled the situation in a safe and professional manner. As far as corrective action is concerned, I hope the airport can work on ways to control the deer population in the vicinity of the airport. Supplemental information from acn 208297. For security and safety purposes, it might help to have taller fences around rural area airports.
