Narrative:

The evening of mar/tue/92, flight from bna to evv boarded as usual. Following SOP, the load manifest was handed to me and I filled it out. The security check had already been made. All numbers were within limits, including the center of gravity. We proceeded with our flight to evv without incident. Upon returning to bna in the morning, I found a corrected manifest in my mailbox for flight. The original manifest had an aft baggage weight of 331 pounds. The corrected manifest had an aft baggage weight of 414 pounds. An increase of 83 pounds from the weight originally given me. This increase of 83 pounds had put me in a center of gravity location telling me to fill all forward seats. Any empty seats must be in section C. Had the gate agent originally given me an aft weight of 414 pounds, I would have moved a passenger from area (C) to (a) in which case the passenger seating assignments would have remained correct. Had the agent told operations to give us a call on company frequency, we could have moved a passenger to the front before actually taking off. We did not receive that call. Had the agent passed this information along later; operations or dispatch could have called on company frequency and told us before landing in evv. We did not receive that call. I have discussed the situation with the lead agent in passenger service department and informed my base manager. There was a communication fault between the baggage handler and agent taking care of the flight. I was satisfied to know the lead supervisor had talked to the responsible parties to find out why and so they were aware of this situation. Recommended to supervisor agents get with all line agents and be sure they realize the importance of letting the crew know before takeoff instead of after the fact! Also that they write their numbers more clearly so that they will be less likely to make a carryover error from other paper work the baggage people handle.

Narrative: THE EVENING OF MAR/TUE/92, FLT FROM BNA TO EVV BOARDED AS USUAL. FOLLOWING SOP, THE LOAD MANIFEST WAS HANDED TO ME AND I FILLED IT OUT. THE SECURITY CHK HAD ALREADY BEEN MADE. ALL NUMBERS WERE WITHIN LIMITS, INCLUDING THE CTR OF GRAVITY. WE PROCEEDED WITH OUR FLT TO EVV WITHOUT INCIDENT. UPON RETURNING TO BNA IN THE MORNING, I FOUND A CORRECTED MANIFEST IN MY MAILBOX FOR FLT. THE ORIGINAL MANIFEST HAD AN AFT BAGGAGE WT OF 331 POUNDS. THE CORRECTED MANIFEST HAD AN AFT BAGGAGE WT OF 414 POUNDS. AN INCREASE OF 83 POUNDS FROM THE WT ORIGINALLY GIVEN ME. THIS INCREASE OF 83 POUNDS HAD PUT ME IN A CTR OF GRAVITY LOCATION TELLING ME TO FILL ALL FORWARD SEATS. ANY EMPTY SEATS MUST BE IN SECTION C. HAD THE GATE AGENT ORIGINALLY GIVEN ME AN AFT WT OF 414 POUNDS, I WOULD HAVE MOVED A PAX FROM AREA (C) TO (A) IN WHICH CASE THE PAX SEATING ASSIGNMENTS WOULD HAVE REMAINED CORRECT. HAD THE AGENT TOLD OPS TO GIVE US A CALL ON COMPANY FREQ, WE COULD HAVE MOVED A PAX TO THE FRONT BEFORE ACTUALLY TAKING OFF. WE DID NOT RECEIVE THAT CALL. HAD THE AGENT PASSED THIS INFO ALONG LATER; OPS OR DISPATCH COULD HAVE CALLED ON COMPANY FREQ AND TOLD US BEFORE LNDG IN EVV. WE DID NOT RECEIVE THAT CALL. I HAVE DISCUSSED THE SITUATION WITH THE LEAD AGENT IN PAX SVC DEPT AND INFORMED MY BASE MGR. THERE WAS A COM FAULT BTWN THE BAGGAGE HANDLER AND AGENT TAKING CARE OF THE FLT. I WAS SATISFIED TO KNOW THE LEAD SUPVR HAD TALKED TO THE RESPONSIBLE PARTIES TO FIND OUT WHY AND SO THEY WERE AWARE OF THIS SITUATION. RECOMMENDED TO SUPVR AGENTS GET WITH ALL LINE AGENTS AND BE SURE THEY REALIZE THE IMPORTANCE OF LETTING THE CREW KNOW BEFORE TKOF INSTEAD OF AFTER THE FACT! ALSO THAT THEY WRITE THEIR NUMBERS MORE CLRLY SO THAT THEY WILL BE LESS LIKELY TO MAKE A CARRYOVER ERROR FROM OTHER PAPER WORK THE BAGGAGE PEOPLE HANDLE.
