Narrative:

Final approach to runway 20 at cha was in progress at cha lovell field, small aircraft had been cleared to land. Wind was 280 degree at 10 KTS slight starboard wingdown and slight left rudder applied. Conditions were clear, air quite choppy on the 2.5 mi final. Final cockpit check for fuel, undercarriage, mixture, propeller, seat belt, etc. Reviewed, all ok. Green light indicating gear down ok; visual nose gear down indicator ok. Touchdown at 80-90 mph ok. Initial roll for approximately 4-5 seconds felt normal. Then aircraft veered to left. Application of right rudder ineffective and as aircraft began to our left off runway, neither right rudder nor braking action had any affect. Aircraft traversed adjacent taxiways and grass and came to rest facing approximately east in grass. Right flap and wing tip and pilot step and tail cone damaged. Right main gear collapsed. Nose and left main properly extended. This appears to be a material/mechanical failure in an aircraft which has received meticulous care both on annual inspections and throughout its flying time over the last 7-8 years.

Title: SMA PLT HAS R MAIN GEAR COLLAPSE ON AFTER LNDG ROLL OUT.

Narrative: FINAL APCH TO RWY 20 AT CHA WAS IN PROGRESS AT CHA LOVELL FIELD, SMA HAD BEEN CLRED TO LAND. WIND WAS 280 DEG AT 10 KTS SLIGHT STARBOARD WINGDOWN AND SLIGHT L RUDDER APPLIED. CONDITIONS WERE CLR, AIR QUITE CHOPPY ON THE 2.5 MI FINAL. FINAL COCKPIT CHK FOR FUEL, UNDERCARRIAGE, MIXTURE, PROP, SEAT BELT, ETC. REVIEWED, ALL OK. GREEN LIGHT INDICATING GEAR DOWN OK; VISUAL NOSE GEAR DOWN INDICATOR OK. TOUCHDOWN AT 80-90 MPH OK. INITIAL ROLL FOR APPROX 4-5 SECONDS FELT NORMAL. THEN ACFT VEERED TO L. APPLICATION OF R RUDDER INEFFECTIVE AND AS ACFT BEGAN TO OUR L OFF RWY, NEITHER R RUDDER NOR BRAKING ACTION HAD ANY AFFECT. ACFT TRAVERSED ADJACENT TAXIWAYS AND GRASS AND CAME TO REST FACING APPROX E IN GRASS. R FLAP AND WING TIP AND PLT STEP AND TAIL CONE DAMAGED. R MAIN GEAR COLLAPSED. NOSE AND L MAIN PROPERLY EXTENDED. THIS APPEARS TO BE A MATERIAL/MECHANICAL FAILURE IN AN ACFT WHICH HAS RECEIVED METICULOUS CARE BOTH ON ANNUAL INSPECTIONS AND THROUGHOUT ITS FLYING TIME OVER THE LAST 7-8 YEARS.
