Narrative:

Departed biorka VOR on a course (off airway) direct to houston VOR, as it was believed to have been filed. Center made no mention of our off airway condition. But after discussion with other crew member we decided we were not flying in conjunction with our 'cleared as filed' route. We had been filed by company dispatcher but had not been given a printed/written copy of flight plan (route specified) and were flying route normally used for this trip. Basic lack of communication between dispatch/pilot/copilot. We then requested the route we had undertaken and were cleared on same.
