Narrative:

I approached runway 4 and stopped at hold line. I called tower and requested straight out departure. Tower cleared departure and said 'hold short.' I mistook clearance for 'taxi and hold.' I taxied onto runway. Tower 'yelled' get off runway. I taxied off and back to hold short line. When I returned from flight about 1 hour later, I was told to call tower on telephone. Tower said that they would have to file a report. I telephoned AOPA several days later and AOPA recommended that I file this report.

Title: GA SMA UNAUTHORIZED RWY ENTRY.

Narrative: I APCHED RWY 4 AND STOPPED AT HOLD LINE. I CALLED TWR AND REQUESTED STRAIGHT OUT DEP. TWR CLRED DEP AND SAID 'HOLD SHORT.' I MISTOOK CLRNC FOR 'TAXI AND HOLD.' I TAXIED ONTO RWY. TWR 'YELLED' GET OFF RWY. I TAXIED OFF AND BACK TO HOLD SHORT LINE. WHEN I RETURNED FROM FLT ABOUT 1 HR LATER, I WAS TOLD TO CALL TWR ON TELEPHONE. TWR SAID THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO FILE A RPT. I TELEPHONED AOPA SEVERAL DAYS LATER AND AOPA RECOMMENDED THAT I FILE THIS RPT.
