Narrative:

I had a malfunction of NAVAID. I was going to louisville, ky, and dialed in VOR 114.8 on VOR mode and showed I was on 019 radial at 55 DME, which put me east of restr area. The knob on control of my autoplt, I discovered later, had loosened and left me in RNAV mode into which I had entered rad and mi to sdf. This put me on 019 from sdf rather than from VOR and caused me to be in R-3403. In am very sorry this happened and will check and doublechk that it never happens again. I am having at this date a different navigation system installed in my plane which has a warning system for restr areas, TCA, etc. I feel with this system and more doublechking by me, I will never enter a restr area again.
