Narrative:

I was cleared to taxi to runway 26L from FBO. I inadvertently crossed hold line by the width of my aircraft. Tower (ground control) advised me to return behind line and hold. After takeoff tower controller asked me why I did what I did. He further stated it has happened regularly and they are trying to figure out what is confusing pilots. There is something confusing about that intersection and the clearance given me. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter states, clearance did not make sense as one taxies out and entire area is black top, not as depicted on airport diagram. No real specific indication of where to taxi. So long ago that he doesn't really remember specifics. He would like to know the answer of 'why?' himself.
