Narrative:

I was advised to expect training in the xx since I had been flying an xy. I advised the chief pilot I was still current in the xx and had been used by flight control on a regular basis to cover xx trips in oct. The chief pilot then advised me that I had not been qualified to do those trips due to not having completed a flight check in the xx. My contention was that I had had a check in the xx in may when I returned from furlough of 3 months and had updated my orals and writtens in jul which was my original recertification date. I completed xy training in aug as well as security training. I also asked the chief pilot why if I was not current in xx I had been assigned an xx line in sep. He didn't know. It appears, therefore, that the paperwork for my xx flight check in may no longer exists. Therefore, on the books at company I am not current according to far 135.301. I suggest that pilots of 135 operators be given copies of paperwork for their currency and be required to keep it on file for 6 months.
