Narrative:

In cruise at FL330, with no prior TA on TCASII, we suddenly got a 'descend now' RA, with a red blip at 12 O'clock, 2 mi on TCASII. We immediately initiated a descent, although we could see no other aircraft visually (daylight, clear skies). At FL326 the TCASII screen cleared and TCASII announced 'clear of conflict'. We returned to FL330. ATC was informed of the altitude change and the reason. Controller's reply was 'I have no aircraft within 15 mi of you'.
