Narrative:
Cleared for visual approach on a 240 degree heading and maintain 210 KTS until OM. Traffic advisory on TCAS came on showing a target ahead. I visually located target and realized he was on parallel approach to 27L. At that time I realized we were overshooting our runway and I made a moderately steep turn to intercept the extended centerline. While in this turn TCAS resolution advisory sounded and commanded a climb. This was ignorned due to visual sighting. At this time approach called to confirm we were turning for the north runway. Approach was continued to a landing on 26R. The TCAS alert distraction me from the approach I was flying at a critical time (just ready to intercept at 210 KTS). A call by approach informing us of south complex traffic would have probably helped prevent this.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: AT INSTANT OF STARTING TURN ONTO ILS FOR APCH AND LNDG, TCASII TA DISTR FLC, OVERSHOT LOC.
Narrative: CLRED FOR VISUAL APCH ON A 240 DEG HDG AND MAINTAIN 210 KTS UNTIL OM. TFC ADVISORY ON TCAS CAME ON SHOWING A TARGET AHEAD. I VISUALLY LOCATED TARGET AND REALIZED HE WAS ON PARALLEL APCH TO 27L. AT THAT TIME I REALIZED WE WERE OVERSHOOTING OUR RWY AND I MADE A MODERATELY STEEP TURN TO INTERCEPT THE EXTENDED CENTERLINE. WHILE IN THIS TURN TCAS RESOLUTION ADVISORY SOUNDED AND COMMANDED A CLB. THIS WAS IGNORNED DUE TO VISUAL SIGHTING. AT THIS TIME APCH CALLED TO CONFIRM WE WERE TURNING FOR THE N RWY. APCH WAS CONTINUED TO A LNDG ON 26R. THE TCAS ALERT DISTR ME FROM THE APCH I WAS FLYING AT A CRITICAL TIME (JUST READY TO INTERCEPT AT 210 KTS). A CALL BY APCH INFORMING US OF S COMPLEX TFC WOULD HAVE PROBABLY HELPED PREVENT THIS.
