Narrative:

While taking a coworker for a ride I searched for an acceptable area to do acrobatics. I found an open area free of clouds and advised approach I would be maneuvering. They gave no objection. For the next 30 mins I did acrobatics, stopping whenever traffic dictated. On landing I discovered my location while free of populations was right over the VOR. Approach could have told me. My mistake was in assuming because I had spoken to approach I was in a safe area.
