Narrative:

After landing on runway 28L, air carrier X made a right turn on taxiway left to clear the runway. As we cleared we encountered 2 medium large transport's eastbound on taxiway west. Tower instructed us to turn right on west and follow the first medium large transport. However, the first medium large transport made a left turn on left, northbound, and it was apparent from the second medium large transport taxi speed that he did not plan to give way to us. We had to stop, hold short of west and wait for the second medium large transport to pass. We were not well clear of 28L, and there was traffic landing on runway 28L behind us. We were unable to advise tower of our predicament due to frequency congestion. As a result, we had minimal sep between our aircraft, those taxiing east on west, and between our aircraft and the one landing behind us--all this at night. I feel that there must have been a breakdown in coordination between the tower and ground controllers for this situation to occur. However, I think it would be good procedure to have aircraft taxiing parallel to a runway hold short of any high speed txwys until it can be ascertained where landing aircraft plan to clear the runway.

Title: ACR X TAXI CONFLICT.

Narrative: AFTER LNDG ON RWY 28L, ACR X MADE A RIGHT TURN ON TXWY L TO CLR THE RWY. AS WE CLRED WE ENCOUNTERED 2 MLG'S EBND ON TXWY W. TWR INSTRUCTED US TO TURN RIGHT ON W AND FOLLOW THE FIRST MLG. HOWEVER, THE FIRST MLG MADE A LEFT TURN ON L, NBND, AND IT WAS APPARENT FROM THE SECOND MLG TAXI SPD THAT HE DID NOT PLAN TO GIVE WAY TO US. WE HAD TO STOP, HOLD SHORT OF W AND WAIT FOR THE SECOND MLG TO PASS. WE WERE NOT WELL CLR OF 28L, AND THERE WAS TFC LNDG ON RWY 28L BEHIND US. WE WERE UNABLE TO ADVISE TWR OF OUR PREDICAMENT DUE TO FREQ CONGESTION. AS A RESULT, WE HAD MINIMAL SEP BTWN OUR ACFT, THOSE TAXIING E ON W, AND BTWN OUR ACFT AND THE ONE LNDG BEHIND US--ALL THIS AT NIGHT. I FEEL THAT THERE MUST HAVE BEEN A BREAKDOWN IN COORD BTWN THE TWR AND GND CTLRS FOR THIS SITUATION TO OCCUR. HOWEVER, I THINK IT WOULD BE GOOD PROC TO HAVE ACFT TAXIING PARALLEL TO A RWY HOLD SHORT OF ANY HIGH SPD TXWYS UNTIL IT CAN BE ASCERTAINED WHERE LNDG ACFT PLAN TO CLR THE RWY.
