Narrative:

I was doing touch and go's on runway 32R at ccr. My student was doing the flying and we were on downwind for 32R. Tower called us to ask if we had the traffic entering downwind in sight. Just as they called us, we saw them on our left wing tip coming toward us in a shallow angle. We took evasive actions and for a while we flew parallel to each other, after which the other aircraft (small aircraft Y) broadened the downwind pattern. Contributing factors: instrument busy instructing and other aircraft coming in where visibility was obscured. Small aircraft Y reporting much further out than he really was.
