Narrative:

Cleared to runway 21L at dtw. Ground control asked us to expedite to runway. They said that center wanted us airborne as soon as possible for ord. On taxiway V, I asked F/east if he had received the weights and turned to check his progress in this procedures and for the checklist. During this process, I missed taxiway west. The copilot said nothing! I was momentarily disoriented. Upon seeing another runway which I thought was 21C, I asked the copilot if we were cleared to cross. I slowed to a stop when he said we were cleared to the runway. I had, however, encroached upon the runway (21L) with the nose of the aircraft. Tower, however, cleared us onto runway 21L into position. (There was no conflict with any other aircraft.) I would not relinquish my responsibility for the occurrence due to my lack of total awareness. I feel that the request by ground control to expedite for for takeoff caused a distraction on my part. Lack of total support by the copilot is contributing. I probably rely too much on their help in maneuvering about the airport than I should. I thought he was aware of where we were and was providing the 'normal' support a good copilot should give under the conditions of VFR and 'all's well.' supplemental information from acn 174931: the captain taxied onto the runway 21L at dtw while taxiing to that runway for takeoff. Upon leaving the blocks we started 2 engines and I did my taxi flow. The captain started taxiing to 21L. In the short time for taxi I was waiting for the weights for takeoff to come over the ACARS. The captain called for the third engine to be started. After starting, I did the after start flow with the taxi flow and the weights started coming over ACARS. I was busy looking up corrections and writing down weights when the incursion took place, and was not even aware what had happened until captain and first officer told me. I feel that if engines were not started during taxi, I might be of more help.

Title: UNAUTH RWY ENTRY BY LGT DURING TAXI AT DTW.

Narrative: CLRED TO RWY 21L AT DTW. GND CTL ASKED US TO EXPEDITE TO RWY. THEY SAID THAT CENTER WANTED US AIRBORNE ASAP FOR ORD. ON TXWY V, I ASKED F/E IF HE HAD RECEIVED THE WTS AND TURNED TO CHK HIS PROGRESS IN THIS PROCS AND FOR THE CHKLIST. DURING THIS PROCESS, I MISSED TXWY W. THE COPLT SAID NOTHING! I WAS MOMENTARILY DISORIENTED. UPON SEEING ANOTHER RWY WHICH I THOUGHT WAS 21C, I ASKED THE COPLT IF WE WERE CLRED TO CROSS. I SLOWED TO A STOP WHEN HE SAID WE WERE CLRED TO THE RWY. I HAD, HOWEVER, ENCROACHED UPON THE RWY (21L) WITH THE NOSE OF THE ACFT. TWR, HOWEVER, CLRED US ONTO RWY 21L INTO POS. (THERE WAS NO CONFLICT WITH ANY OTHER ACFT.) I WOULD NOT RELINQUISH MY RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE OCCURRENCE DUE TO MY LACK OF TOTAL AWARENESS. I FEEL THAT THE REQUEST BY GND CTL TO EXPEDITE FOR FOR TKOF CAUSED A DISTR ON MY PART. LACK OF TOTAL SUPPORT BY THE COPLT IS CONTRIBUTING. I PROBABLY RELY TOO MUCH ON THEIR HELP IN MANEUVERING ABOUT THE ARPT THAN I SHOULD. I THOUGHT HE WAS AWARE OF WHERE WE WERE AND WAS PROVIDING THE 'NORMAL' SUPPORT A GOOD COPLT SHOULD GIVE UNDER THE CONDITIONS OF VFR AND 'ALL'S WELL.' SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 174931: THE CAPT TAXIED ONTO THE RWY 21L AT DTW WHILE TAXIING TO THAT RWY FOR TKOF. UPON LEAVING THE BLOCKS WE STARTED 2 ENGS AND I DID MY TAXI FLOW. THE CAPT STARTED TAXIING TO 21L. IN THE SHORT TIME FOR TAXI I WAS WAITING FOR THE WTS FOR TKOF TO COME OVER THE ACARS. THE CAPT CALLED FOR THE THIRD ENG TO BE STARTED. AFTER STARTING, I DID THE AFTER START FLOW WITH THE TAXI FLOW AND THE WTS STARTED COMING OVER ACARS. I WAS BUSY LOOKING UP CORRECTIONS AND WRITING DOWN WTS WHEN THE INCURSION TOOK PLACE, AND WAS NOT EVEN AWARE WHAT HAD HAPPENED UNTIL CAPT AND F/O TOLD ME. I FEEL THAT IF ENGS WERE NOT STARTED DURING TAXI, I MIGHT BE OF MORE HELP.
