Narrative:

As we signaled the ramp attendant of our 'ready to taxi,' my first officer called ground control for taxi clearance. Several aircraft were on the frequency and I was paying close attention to my turnaround. I understood (taxi to runway 24L.' as we came out of the gate area, I began completing my first flight of the day systems check. As I approached another runway (18), I stopped momentarily and looked to my right and my left. I noticed what appeared to be a landing light on my left. I slowed my taxi and was about to verify my taxi clearance. At that time, ground control instructed me to 'hold short.' my first officer then stated that we were initially instructed to taxi to runway 24L, hold short of 18. He then apologized. We were about 10' across the hold line. The other aircraft (a cpr mdt Y jet) landed and turned off before reaching our position down the runway. Ground control then instructed us to 'cross 18.' nothing else was ever said to us by day ground. I feel that my crew member and I became to engulfed with our duties, whereas we should not have needed to be reminded. I also feel that crew members should be trained to verify a simple clearance at any runway/taxiway crossing.

Narrative: AS WE SIGNALED THE RAMP ATTENDANT OF OUR 'READY TO TAXI,' MY F/O CALLED GND CTL FOR TAXI CLRNC. SEVERAL ACFT WERE ON THE FREQ AND I WAS PAYING CLOSE ATTN TO MY TURNAROUND. I UNDERSTOOD (TAXI TO RWY 24L.' AS WE CAME OUT OF THE GATE AREA, I BEGAN COMPLETING MY FIRST FLT OF THE DAY SYSTEMS CHK. AS I APCHED ANOTHER RWY (18), I STOPPED MOMENTARILY AND LOOKED TO MY RIGHT AND MY LEFT. I NOTICED WHAT APPEARED TO BE A LNDG LIGHT ON MY LEFT. I SLOWED MY TAXI AND WAS ABOUT TO VERIFY MY TAXI CLRNC. AT THAT TIME, GND CTL INSTRUCTED ME TO 'HOLD SHORT.' MY F/O THEN STATED THAT WE WERE INITIALLY INSTRUCTED TO TAXI TO RWY 24L, HOLD SHORT OF 18. HE THEN APOLOGIZED. WE WERE ABOUT 10' ACROSS THE HOLD LINE. THE OTHER ACFT (A CPR MDT Y JET) LANDED AND TURNED OFF BEFORE REACHING OUR POS DOWN THE RWY. GND CTL THEN INSTRUCTED US TO 'CROSS 18.' NOTHING ELSE WAS EVER SAID TO US BY DAY GND. I FEEL THAT MY CREW MEMBER AND I BECAME TO ENGULFED WITH OUR DUTIES, WHEREAS WE SHOULD NOT HAVE NEEDED TO BE REMINDED. I ALSO FEEL THAT CREW MEMBERS SHOULD BE TRAINED TO VERIFY A SIMPLE CLRNC AT ANY RWY/TXWY XING.
