Narrative:
I was flying traffic watch. I had just looked in that direction, but looked again because I was about to make a turn and because of the high traffic vol going into pdx in that area. I saw the light-colored small aircraft on my left side. I reduced power and pitched down. We would have missed west/O any action, but it probably would have been less than 500'.

Title: SMA PLT'S LAST MINUTE USE OF SEE AND AVOID CONCEPT AVOIDS NMAC IN A POTENTIAL CONFLICT.
Narrative: I WAS FLYING TFC WATCH. I HAD JUST LOOKED IN THAT DIRECTION, BUT LOOKED AGAIN BECAUSE I WAS ABOUT TO MAKE A TURN AND BECAUSE OF THE HIGH TFC VOL GOING INTO PDX IN THAT AREA. I SAW THE LIGHT-COLORED SMA ON MY LEFT SIDE. I REDUCED PWR AND PITCHED DOWN. WE WOULD HAVE MISSED W/O ANY ACTION, BUT IT PROBABLY WOULD HAVE BEEN LESS THAN 500'.
