Narrative:

We were cleared for the NDB runway 32 at mqy. Approaching the FAF, nashville approach advised traffic at our 9 O'clock and 1/2 mi at our altitude. Began looking for the traffic and made positive contact but did not hear approach give missed approach instructions, but the PF did and we were handed off to smyrna tower. We reported to tower that we were FAF inbound on the NDB runway 32. They also advised of the traffic at our 9 O'clock that was on the approach for runway 32. The other aircraft was advised to do a 360 degree turn. We were then cleared for low approach. At about 1 mi out another aircraft turned base for 32, while another was cleared for takeoff. We went missed approach and the tower then advised that we had traffic at our 10 O'clock (the departing aircraft) I had my student remove his hood to look for the traffic. As he removed the hood to look he began a turn to the left instead of a right turn, as called for in the missed approach instructions. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information. The kernel of this report seems to be that bna TRACON cleared two aircraft for an approach at the same time. Reporter said that they had been cleared for an ILS approach to runway 32. (In his report he said an NDB approach). He said that the traffic that had been pointed out to him at 9 O'clock had also been cleared for an ILS approach. He said they may have gotten within 1/2 mi of each other. The false left turn on the missed approach was toward the aircraft that had turned left after takeoff and that was flying away from them. No conflict arose there.

Title: TWO ACFT CLEARED FOR INSTRUMENT APCHS TO THE SAME RWY AT THE SAME TIME.

Narrative: WE WERE CLRED FOR THE NDB RWY 32 AT MQY. APCHING THE FAF, NASHVILLE APCH ADVISED TFC AT OUR 9 O'CLOCK AND 1/2 MI AT OUR ALT. BEGAN LOOKING FOR THE TFC AND MADE POSITIVE CONTACT BUT DID NOT HEAR APCH GIVE MISSED APCH INSTRUCTIONS, BUT THE PF DID AND WE WERE HANDED OFF TO SMYRNA TWR. WE RPTED TO TWR THAT WE WERE FAF INBND ON THE NDB RWY 32. THEY ALSO ADVISED OF THE TFC AT OUR 9 O'CLOCK THAT WAS ON THE APCH FOR RWY 32. THE OTHER ACFT WAS ADVISED TO DO A 360 DEG TURN. WE WERE THEN CLRED FOR LOW APCH. AT ABOUT 1 MI OUT ANOTHER ACFT TURNED BASE FOR 32, WHILE ANOTHER WAS CLRED FOR TKOF. WE WENT MISSED APCH AND THE TWR THEN ADVISED THAT WE HAD TFC AT OUR 10 O'CLOCK (THE DEPARTING ACFT) I HAD MY STUDENT REMOVE HIS HOOD TO LOOK FOR THE TFC. AS HE REMOVED THE HOOD TO LOOK HE BEGAN A TURN TO THE L INSTEAD OF A R TURN, AS CALLED FOR IN THE MISSED APCH INSTRUCTIONS. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO. THE KERNEL OF THIS RPT SEEMS TO BE THAT BNA TRACON CLRED TWO ACFT FOR AN APCH AT THE SAME TIME. RPTR SAID THAT THEY HAD BEEN CLRED FOR AN ILS APCH TO RWY 32. (IN HIS RPT HE SAID AN NDB APCH). HE SAID THAT THE TFC THAT HAD BEEN POINTED OUT TO HIM AT 9 O'CLOCK HAD ALSO BEEN CLRED FOR AN ILS APCH. HE SAID THEY MAY HAVE GOTTEN WITHIN 1/2 MI OF EACH OTHER. THE FALSE L TURN ON THE MISSED APCH WAS TOWARD THE ACFT THAT HAD TURNED L AFTER TKOF AND THAT WAS FLYING AWAY FROM THEM. NO CONFLICT AROSE THERE.
