Narrative:

We were holding short of runway 36L at dfw on our way to taxi to runway 31L when the tower called our flight abc to cross runway 36L nd taxi to runway 31L with 'expedite flight abc.' I released my parking brake while I applied plenty of power to the engines to get across runway 36L fast, when I saw lights lined up with 36L; it was an aircraft coming in for landing. He was close, too close and therefore I slammed on my brakes. I still was short of the yellow holding lines on the taxiway and shaken a bit when that huge widebody transport came roaring by us a little while later (just a little while). Good thing that pilot elected to have his landing/taxi lights on so I could see him, I did. Tower frequency was so busy again, you could not get a word in. Dangerous situation. Too many flight numbers too close together also: abc, acb, cabin attendant, etc.
