Narrative:

Cleared for takeoff behind an mdt jet to maintain visibility contact. TCAS system started giving aural warnings shortly after takeoff. Executed drake four departure and at the srp 1 DME turned to 030 degree heading. Experienced some confusion by the muting of the cockpit speakers by the TCAS traffic alert. Just about that time we lost sight of the mdt (he was heading northeast). Started a left turn to try and pick up the mdt and the TCAS traffic alert went off for the third time just about that time departure control corrected our heading and pointed out a heavy inbound approximately 6 mi away. I think the problem was a combination of the TCAS going off, the muting of the overhead speakers, and trying to visly keep track of traffic.

Title: LGT CLEARED FOLLOW MDT VISUALLY DEPARTING PHX HAD TCAS II WARNING. TURNED OFF COURSE TO LOCATE MDT VISUALLY TCAS II AND CTLR ALERTED TRAFFIC INBOUND.

Narrative: CLRED FOR TKOF BEHIND AN MDT JET TO MAINTAIN VIS CONTACT. TCAS SYS STARTED GIVING AURAL WARNINGS SHORTLY AFTER TKOF. EXECUTED DRAKE FOUR DEP AND AT THE SRP 1 DME TURNED TO 030 DEG HDG. EXPERIENCED SOME CONFUSION BY THE MUTING OF THE COCKPIT SPEAKERS BY THE TCAS TFC ALERT. JUST ABOUT THAT TIME WE LOST SIGHT OF THE MDT (HE WAS HDG NE). STARTED A L TURN TO TRY AND PICK UP THE MDT AND THE TCAS TFC ALERT WENT OFF FOR THE THIRD TIME JUST ABOUT THAT TIME DEP CTL CORRECTED OUR HDG AND POINTED OUT A HVY INBND APPROX 6 MI AWAY. I THINK THE PROB WAS A COMBINATION OF THE TCAS GOING OFF, THE MUTING OF THE OVERHEAD SPEAKERS, AND TRYING TO VISLY KEEP TRACK OF TFC.
