Narrative:

Air carrier X was cleared for takeoff runway 22L while still taxiing toward takeoff end of runway 22L at ord. As captain I taxied into takeoff position on runway 22L and turned the controls over to the first officer (first officer's leg). Takeoff checklists were verified complete and takeoff roll was commenced. Shortly after power was stabilized (approximately 30 KTS) the tower commanded an abort due to traffic on short final clearance to land on runway 27L. (Traffic for landing on 27L passes overhead aircraft in position on runway 22L.) air carrier Y did in fact pass overhead on a tower commanded go around. We were then cleared to taxi back into position for takeoff which we did, and subsequent takeoff was uneventful. At no time on the original takeoff clearance did tower imply that an expedited takeoff roll was desired due to traffic on final for the other wy (runway 27L). The original taxi up to and into position and takeoff initiation were therefore normal in all respects--that is, no undue or unusual rush or delay.

Title: ACR X SLOW TKOF TWR INITIATED ABORTED TKOF. ACR Y TWR INITIATED GO AROUND TO PROVIDE STANDARD SEPARATION. SYSTEM ERROR. LESS THAN STANDARD SEPARATION.

Narrative: ACR X WAS CLRED FOR TKOF RWY 22L WHILE STILL TAXIING TOWARD TKOF END OF RWY 22L AT ORD. AS CAPT I TAXIED INTO TKOF POS ON RWY 22L AND TURNED THE CTLS OVER TO THE F/O (F/O'S LEG). TKOF CHKLISTS WERE VERIFIED COMPLETE AND TKOF ROLL WAS COMMENCED. SHORTLY AFTER PWR WAS STABILIZED (APPROX 30 KTS) THE TWR COMMANDED AN ABORT DUE TO TFC ON SHORT FINAL CLRNC TO LAND ON RWY 27L. (TFC FOR LNDG ON 27L PASSES OVERHEAD ACFT IN POS ON RWY 22L.) ACR Y DID IN FACT PASS OVERHEAD ON A TWR COMMANDED GAR. WE WERE THEN CLRED TO TAXI BACK INTO POS FOR TKOF WHICH WE DID, AND SUBSEQUENT TKOF WAS UNEVENTFUL. AT NO TIME ON THE ORIGINAL TKOF CLRNC DID TWR IMPLY THAT AN EXPEDITED TKOF ROLL WAS DESIRED DUE TO TFC ON FINAL FOR THE OTHER WY (RWY 27L). THE ORIGINAL TAXI UP TO AND INTO POS AND TKOF INITIATION WERE THEREFORE NORMAL IN ALL RESPECTS--THAT IS, NO UNDUE OR UNUSUAL RUSH OR DELAY.
