Narrative:
We were cleared to the gate after giving way to an small transport X taxiing northbound through the penalty box. The captain questioned if the aircraft to our left was the small transport X ground was talking about and I said yes it was and that we were to give way to him. The small transport X stopped and gave way to us. The captain taxied to the gate ahead of the small transport X. Ground questioned us and I stated the small transport X gave way to us. Ground said he had priority and was on tower frequency. After talking to the captain he said he thought the small transport X was an small transport Y at no point was their a chance of collision because the small transport X had stopped well clear of our taxi path. I think the small transport X should have been on ground frequency.
