Narrative:

We were on the ruudy 6 departure; and we have flown this departure many time. The owner was flying and I was PIC. We briefed the departure and he said he was familiar. We ended up on a heading past davim when he continued up to 1;900 feet. We should have turned at 520 feet direct davim and leveled at 1;500 feet.unknown to me; the owner had touched the screen on our new garmin txi panels on his side and locked on position at runway 24. This stopped his map from moving with the plane and he became lost on the departure and remained on heading and climbed through altitude. I saw something was wrong and we corrected to wentz and descended to 1;500 feet.this is a departure that a lot of things happen fast and is very hard to recover in time.we installed new high-tech garmin txi panels which is great but the training is basically learn as you go and what garmin provides is generic and very simple. I have been unable to get info from garmin on how to train pilots in the plane with this system by simulating failures in the aircraft. On top of this; I received recurrent training in a PC12 simulator the week before with a totally different bendix king EFIS 50 system and this was the first flight after that which added to the confusion.
