Narrative:

En route to jqf. Center gave nascr one arrival into jqf. First officer 'interpreted' STAR to show direct nascr after flo. Actually it should (is) flo to ctf direct. A turn to nascr was begun over flo, and center asked intention. The deviation was pointed out and turn made to ctf. The misinterpretation was due to first officer not being familiar with area and also misinterpreted STAR. Lessons learned: again, when in doubt ask! Captain should agree to plan and check chart!
