Narrative:

When cleared for takeoff, I pwred up to 40 percent N1 released brakes and continued to set takeoff thrust. At that time the takeoff warning horn sounded. I retarded throttles to idle and checked spdbrake. Takeoff trim and flap setting. I found the flaps in the up position. The aircraft had not moved 100' so I pwred up to taxi to the first turnoff and the first officer notified tower we were clearing the active runway and taxiing back to the takeoff hold short point. I elected to run the entire before takeoff checklist again. Factors: we have a total new checklist which was effective last month. This is the second in 12 months due to merger of co. We pwred away from gate as opposed to push back. So first officer did not lower takeoff flaps in order to clear ground equipment on ramp. This was a break in his normal flow. As we accomplished the before takeoff checklist we discussed balanced thrust takeoff V speed reduction. These are different from our chart speeds. During this discussion the first officer's finger slipped passed the checklist item flaps. Since this was a new checklist neither of us noticed the missing item. I broke my normal flow by not having a copy of the checklist on my yoke for backup. I thought I felt comfortable with the new checklist and it is not required for me to do so. It was a lesson that I will never forget! Supplemental information from acn 159257. Since a new checklist was using thumb as marker as new list was read. Due to interuption did not return to checklist at proper position.

DUE TO INTERUPTION DID NOT RETURN TO CHKLIST AT PROPER POS.
