Narrative:

Was on final ILS course prior to OM. New plane first time flown, and new autoplt system which malfunctioned. It made a right turn of 180 degrees off course in marginal to IMC WX, happened quickly in IMC. Torrance tower asked if I was unfamiliar with area and was advised to remain VMC while on IFR flight plan. Did a 360 degree turn back onto final approach. Could not disengage autoplt until after 180 degree turn made, but then landed runway 29R. Am having aircraft svced to fix problem.
