Narrative:

When we arrived our gate was occupied and we had to wait over 30 minutes for a gate. I was concerned about missing my commute home due to the delay. Once we pulled into the gate the captain told me to gather my gear and leave immediately to try and make my commute home and he would take care of the checklist. I did so. I found out later that the number 1 engine had been left running at the gate.
