Narrative:

First landing at an unfamiliar airfield. Clear weather and calm winds. Made a normal pattern entry; downwind; base and final approach for short field landing. On landing roll out; aircraft developed drift to the left which was corrected; but followed by right drift. Right tire found soft mud on right side of runway and right drift accelerated and progressed into a ground loop and before coming to rest in the grass to the right of the runway. Normal shutdown followed.pilots of tailwheel aircraft must be ever vigilant of loss of directional control while landing. Soft turf on sides of the runway can make directional control more difficult.
