Narrative:

After a last min change of departure runway the IFR departure procedure was discussed as well as the special engine out procedure for the runway (runway 11). Although we all thought we understood this procedure it became obvious during climb out that we were not correct in our understanding. The procedure as printed on the back of the page is rather long and confusing. (At least it was to us). In retrospect and after a long discussion we now understand the procedure. However, I believe that if the procedure was also published in a pictorial presentation such as a 'SID' there would have been no confusion. (Not necessary for all airports with IFR departure procedures but would be good for complicated procedures). This procedure called for 'runway 11 climbing right turn to heading 220 degree; intercept mso VOR R-152 to 7800', then climbing left turn to 9000' via mso R-152 inbound to mso VOR, continue to cross VOR at or above MEA or MCA for route of flight.' if a pictorial presentation for these procedures is not practical confusion possibly would have been avoided if after the climbing right turn to 220 degree the procedure stated to intercept the mso VOR R-152 outbnd and then continued as published.

Narrative: AFTER A LAST MIN CHANGE OF DEP RWY THE IFR DEP PROC WAS DISCUSSED AS WELL AS THE SPECIAL ENG OUT PROC FOR THE RWY (RWY 11). HOWEVER, I BELIEVE THAT IF THE PROC WAS ALSO PUBLISHED IN A PICTORIAL PRESENTATION SUCH AS A 'SID' THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN NO CONFUSION. (NOT NECESSARY FOR ALL ARPTS WITH IFR DEP PROCS BUT WOULD BE GOOD FOR COMPLICATED PROCS). THIS PROC CALLED FOR 'RWY 11 CLBING R TURN TO HDG 220 DEG; INTERCEPT MSO VOR R-152 TO 7800', THEN CLBING L TURN TO 9000' VIA MSO R-152 INBND TO MSO VOR, CONTINUE TO CROSS VOR AT OR ABOVE MEA OR MCA FOR RTE OF FLT.' IF A PICTORIAL PRESENTATION FOR THESE PROCS IS NOT PRACTICAL CONFUSION POSSIBLY WOULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED IF AFTER THE CLBING R TURN TO 220 DEG THE PROC STATED TO INTERCEPT THE MSO VOR R-152 OUTBND AND THEN CONTINUED AS PUBLISHED.
