Narrative:

Air carrier X at 12000' MSL 35 NM/285 degree right, ZJX asked us what altitude we were descending to. We replied, '10000', as cleared.' ZJX replied, 'you are cleared to 13000' only.' we informed ZJX we heard 10000' and read back 10000'. ZJX said he missed the read back on clearance. We returned to 13000'. I was off ZJX frequency to pick-up ATIS at tpa when clearance was giving, but I heard 10000' read back from first officer on my SID tone. When I was back on ZJX frequency, I confirmed clearance with first officer 10000'. The situation would not have occurred if ZJX did not miss our readback. Supplemental information from acn 148523: air carrier X while descending into tpa. I took a clearance form ZJX to cross 35 mi out to tpa at 10000' and 250 KTS. Approximately 45 mi out on the 285 degree right from tpa, as we passed through approximately 12200', ZJX asked us to what altitude we were descending to. I told him 10000'. He then told us that we were cleared to 13000'. We immediately made the climb back to 13000'. I then told ATC that I had accepted and read back the clearance as to cross 35 mi at 10000' and 250 KTS. The controller then stated that he had missed M Y readback. During the time that I took the clearance cap was getting the ATIS to tpa. After I had read back the clearance to ATC, captain asked that I confirm the clearance.

Title: ACR X DESCENDING TO WRONG ALT. PLT DEVIATION CTLR FAILED TO HEARD WRONG ALT READBACK OPERATIONAL DEVIATION.

Narrative: ACR X AT 12000' MSL 35 NM/285 DEG R, ZJX ASKED US WHAT ALT WE WERE DSNDING TO. WE REPLIED, '10000', AS CLRED.' ZJX REPLIED, 'YOU ARE CLRED TO 13000' ONLY.' WE INFORMED ZJX WE HEARD 10000' AND READ BACK 10000'. ZJX SAID HE MISSED THE READ BACK ON CLRNC. WE RETURNED TO 13000'. I WAS OFF ZJX FREQ TO PICK-UP ATIS AT TPA WHEN CLRNC WAS GIVING, BUT I HEARD 10000' READ BACK FROM F/O ON MY SID TONE. WHEN I WAS BACK ON ZJX FREQ, I CONFIRMED CLRNC WITH F/O 10000'. THE SITUATION WOULD NOT HAVE OCCURRED IF ZJX DID NOT MISS OUR READBACK. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 148523: ACR X WHILE DSNDING INTO TPA. I TOOK A CLRNC FORM ZJX TO CROSS 35 MI OUT TO TPA AT 10000' AND 250 KTS. APPROX 45 MI OUT ON THE 285 DEG R FROM TPA, AS WE PASSED THROUGH APPROX 12200', ZJX ASKED US TO WHAT ALT WE WERE DSNDING TO. I TOLD HIM 10000'. HE THEN TOLD US THAT WE WERE CLRED TO 13000'. WE IMMEDIATELY MADE THE CLB BACK TO 13000'. I THEN TOLD ATC THAT I HAD ACCEPTED AND READ BACK THE CLRNC AS TO CROSS 35 MI AT 10000' AND 250 KTS. THE CTLR THEN STATED THAT HE HAD MISSED M Y READBACK. DURING THE TIME THAT I TOOK THE CLRNC CAP WAS GETTING THE ATIS TO TPA. AFTER I HAD READ BACK THE CLRNC TO ATC, CAPT ASKED THAT I CONFIRM THE CLRNC.
