Narrative:

On long final (approximately 20 mi) cleared ILS runway 24R lax. No other xmissions or handoff to tower were received. Landed on approach control frequency and did not verify landing clearance. There were no other aircraft on or approaching the runway. There were no other aircraft in front of us. Because there was no handoff and we were squinting into the setting sun at the runway, we missed the memory jog to verify landing clearance. After landing as we cleared the runway, we realized that we had not talked to tower--and because we had no conflicting traffic in front of our aircraft, realized that we had not questioned the fact that we did not receive landing clearance. We were not questioned on the landing clearance, as it is normally given on tower frequency and frequently not acknowledged. We were questioned on the fact that tower could not talk to us on the runway about which high speed exit we could make. I recommend that all tower/approach control handoffs be standardized at the marker or left until after rollout, and that the handoff would be automatic. We have been so regimented as to not changing frequencys before we are advised that, when I did not receive a handoff I lost my cue to talk to tower and verify the landing clearance.

Title: ACR LGT LANDS WITHOUT CLRNC.

Narrative: ON LONG FINAL (APPROX 20 MI) CLRED ILS RWY 24R LAX. NO OTHER XMISSIONS OR HDOF TO TWR WERE RECEIVED. LANDED ON APCH CTL FREQ AND DID NOT VERIFY LNDG CLRNC. THERE WERE NO OTHER ACFT ON OR APCHING THE RWY. THERE WERE NO OTHER ACFT IN FRONT OF US. BECAUSE THERE WAS NO HDOF AND WE WERE SQUINTING INTO THE SETTING SUN AT THE RWY, WE MISSED THE MEMORY JOG TO VERIFY LNDG CLRNC. AFTER LNDG AS WE CLRED THE RWY, WE REALIZED THAT WE HAD NOT TALKED TO TWR--AND BECAUSE WE HAD NO CONFLICTING TFC IN FRONT OF OUR ACFT, REALIZED THAT WE HAD NOT QUESTIONED THE FACT THAT WE DID NOT RECEIVE LNDG CLRNC. WE WERE NOT QUESTIONED ON THE LNDG CLRNC, AS IT IS NORMALLY GIVEN ON TWR FREQ AND FREQUENTLY NOT ACKNOWLEDGED. WE WERE QUESTIONED ON THE FACT THAT TWR COULD NOT TALK TO US ON THE RWY ABOUT WHICH HIGH SPD EXIT WE COULD MAKE. I RECOMMEND THAT ALL TWR/APCH CTL HDOFS BE STANDARDIZED AT THE MARKER OR LEFT UNTIL AFTER ROLLOUT, AND THAT THE HDOF WOULD BE AUTOMATIC. WE HAVE BEEN SO REGIMENTED AS TO NOT CHANGING FREQS BEFORE WE ARE ADVISED THAT, WHEN I DID NOT RECEIVE A HDOF I LOST MY CUE TO TALK TO TWR AND VERIFY THE LNDG CLRNC.
