Narrative:

We landed on runway 31L at mueller municipal in austin, tx. There was no restriction given to hold short of runway 35 in the landing clearance. On landing roll, tower told us to cross runway 35 at juliet taxiway and hold on the other side. I was unclear as to what was meant by holding on 'the other side,' so I questioned the clearance. As we were still taking on the radio, the aircraft was clearing at the intersection of runways 31L and 35, and a taxiway which I now know to be juliet.I believe the controller was unaware that we were already clearing 31L at this pint, and that we had crossed runway 35. I saw the taxiway juliet sign and directed my attention to the after-landing checklist, confident that the captain was doing exactly what the controller had requested. While recrossing 4, out of the corner of my eye, I saw the lights of an aircraft pass overhead. An aircraft had flown over us after taking off on runway 35. I do not remember hearing anyone being cleared for takeoff, and we remained on tower frequency. Cause factors: 1) when on landing roll to an airport, particularly at night, pilots should not be given lengthy or complex instructions, since their primary attention must be directed to slowing down the aircraft; 2) only standard phrases should be used in clrncs, such as, 'next left turn if able, then contact ground.'

Title: ACR MLG UNAUTH TAXI RWY CROSSING.

Narrative: WE LANDED ON RWY 31L AT MUELLER MUNI IN AUSTIN, TX. THERE WAS NO RESTRICTION GIVEN TO HOLD SHORT OF RWY 35 IN THE LNDG CLRNC. ON LNDG ROLL, TWR TOLD US TO CROSS RWY 35 AT JULIET TXWY AND HOLD ON THE OTHER SIDE. I WAS UNCLEAR AS TO WHAT WAS MEANT BY HOLDING ON 'THE OTHER SIDE,' SO I QUESTIONED THE CLRNC. AS WE WERE STILL TAKING ON THE RADIO, THE ACFT WAS CLRING AT THE INTXN OF RWYS 31L AND 35, AND A TXWY WHICH I NOW KNOW TO BE JULIET.I BELIEVE THE CTLR WAS UNAWARE THAT WE WERE ALREADY CLRING 31L AT THIS PINT, AND THAT WE HAD CROSSED RWY 35. I SAW THE TXWY JULIET SIGN AND DIRECTED MY ATTN TO THE AFTER-LNDG CHKLIST, CONFIDENT THAT THE CAPT WAS DOING EXACTLY WHAT THE CTLR HAD REQUESTED. WHILE RECROSSING 4, OUT OF THE CORNER OF MY EYE, I SAW THE LIGHTS OF AN ACFT PASS OVERHEAD. AN ACFT HAD FLOWN OVER US AFTER TAKING OFF ON RWY 35. I DO NOT REMEMBER HEARING ANYONE BEING CLRED FOR TKOF, AND WE REMAINED ON TWR FREQ. CAUSE FACTORS: 1) WHEN ON LNDG ROLL TO AN ARPT, PARTICULARLY AT NIGHT, PLTS SHOULD NOT BE GIVEN LENGTHY OR COMPLEX INSTRUCTIONS, SINCE THEIR PRIMARY ATTN MUST BE DIRECTED TO SLOWING DOWN THE ACFT; 2) ONLY STANDARD PHRASES SHOULD BE USED IN CLRNCS, SUCH AS, 'NEXT LEFT TURN IF ABLE, THEN CONTACT GND.'
