Narrative:

Original taxi clearance: taxi runway 24, hold short of runway 33 at india. Then amended to: follow air carrier Y, use caution around construction area. Just past construction area, we started the before takeoff checklist. Followed air carrier Y and while crossing runway 33 at charlie, we saw an medium large transport to our right and it appeared to be up near the approach end and on 33. We were still on ground control and stayed on ground (121.9) until clearing runway 19 at which time the first officer switched to tower (120.3). Upon tuning tower, we were asked when we switched to tower (120.3) from ground control. The first officer replied after crossing the second runway 19. Told to go back to ground and then given information on departure clearance time. The first taxi instruction was clear. The amended taxi instruction, 'follow air carrier Y' with no holding instructions, our ground control volume was up and not touched, at least not on purpose. We were also completing the before takeoff checklist about the time of crossing runway 33.

Narrative: ORIGINAL TAXI CLRNC: TAXI RWY 24, HOLD SHORT OF RWY 33 AT INDIA. THEN AMENDED TO: FOLLOW ACR Y, USE CAUTION AROUND CONSTRUCTION AREA. JUST PAST CONSTRUCTION AREA, WE STARTED THE BEFORE TKOF CHECKLIST. FOLLOWED ACR Y AND WHILE XING RWY 33 AT CHARLIE, WE SAW AN MLG TO OUR RIGHT AND IT APPEARED TO BE UP NEAR THE APCH END AND ON 33. WE WERE STILL ON GND CTL AND STAYED ON GND (121.9) UNTIL CLEARING RWY 19 AT WHICH TIME THE F/O SWITCHED TO TWR (120.3). UPON TUNING TWR, WE WERE ASKED WHEN WE SWITCHED TO TWR (120.3) FROM GND CTL. THE F/O REPLIED AFTER XING THE SECOND RWY 19. TOLD TO GO BACK TO GND AND THEN GIVEN INFO ON DEP CLRNC TIME. THE FIRST TAXI INSTRUCTION WAS CLEAR. THE AMENDED TAXI INSTRUCTION, 'FOLLOW ACR Y' WITH NO HOLDING INSTRUCTIONS, OUR GND CTL VOLUME WAS UP AND NOT TOUCHED, AT LEAST NOT ON PURPOSE. WE WERE ALSO COMPLETING THE BEFORE TKOF CHECKLIST ABOUT THE TIME OF XING RWY 33.
