Narrative:

Cleared for a straight in approach for runway 34. Report passing twin towers. Congested frequency while passing towers had to wait to report. Another aircraft cleared to land 22. I was told to hold short of 22. Because of my waiting to report position, I did not realize I was not losing enough altitude to make a landing until on short final. Attempted to slip in, but gained too much airspeed. The increase in airspeed caused my aircraft to land long and I crossed onto runway 22. The other aircraft was in sight and had passed the intersection before I got there. Should have initiated a go around as soon as I realized I was too high. Actually, I should have entered a downwind or base leg to begin with. I don't like straight-in apches.
