Narrative:

One can experience a cold clammy feeling by looking at the aircraft communications radio after landing and noting that the tower frequency is not one of the frequencys displayed, meaning, we just landed and didn't talk to the tower. How could this happen? Easy! Provide vectors for an unannounced approach (ATIS says ILS, controller intends to get aircraft clear of clouds and then clear for a visual). Due to heavy traffic and controller technique we came out of the clouds 4 mi from the runway, 1/2 mi south of the extended runway centerline and somewhat above a comfortable airspeed for the position. On top of the above circumstances, the pilot flying had only 16 hours and 5 lndgs in the aircraft. In view of his experience and our position it might have been prudent to relieve him of control, but he was doing well and I chose to let him continue and provide suggestions on confign and speed. My interest in his flying allowed contacting the tower to be overlooked. Considering that sloppy controller technique seems to be increasing, I will increase my awareness to be sure to accomplish basic functions during exciting apches.

Title: ACR LGT UNAUTH LNDG AT MSP.

Narrative: ONE CAN EXPERIENCE A COLD CLAMMY FEELING BY LOOKING AT THE ACFT COMS RADIO AFTER LNDG AND NOTING THAT THE TWR FREQ IS NOT ONE OF THE FREQS DISPLAYED, MEANING, WE JUST LANDED AND DIDN'T TALK TO THE TWR. HOW COULD THIS HAPPEN? EASY! PROVIDE VECTORS FOR AN UNANNOUNCED APCH (ATIS SAYS ILS, CTLR INTENDS TO GET ACFT CLEAR OF CLOUDS AND THEN CLEAR FOR A VISUAL). DUE TO HEAVY TFC AND CTLR TECHNIQUE WE CAME OUT OF THE CLOUDS 4 MI FROM THE RWY, 1/2 MI S OF THE EXTENDED RWY CENTERLINE AND SOMEWHAT ABOVE A COMFORTABLE AIRSPEED FOR THE POSITION. ON TOP OF THE ABOVE CIRCUMSTANCES, THE PLT FLYING HAD ONLY 16 HRS AND 5 LNDGS IN THE ACFT. IN VIEW OF HIS EXPERIENCE AND OUR POSITION IT MIGHT HAVE BEEN PRUDENT TO RELIEVE HIM OF CONTROL, BUT HE WAS DOING WELL AND I CHOSE TO LET HIM CONTINUE AND PROVIDE SUGGESTIONS ON CONFIGN AND SPEED. MY INTEREST IN HIS FLYING ALLOWED CONTACTING THE TWR TO BE OVERLOOKED. CONSIDERING THAT SLOPPY CTLR TECHNIQUE SEEMS TO BE INCREASING, I WILL INCREASE MY AWARENESS TO BE SURE TO ACCOMPLISH BASIC FUNCTIONS DURING EXCITING APCHES.
