Narrative:

On sep/thu/89, a deer was impacted with the aircraft almost a the same time as touchdown. No problem was experienced with ctlability, braking or directional control. No one except the deer was injured. Chief of maintenance examined the aircraft which had very minor damage to a landing gear door fairing and a small area of the flap. Our chief of maintenance said the aircraft was safe to ferry 80 mi with the flaps retracted and the gear down. This was done without any problem. After the flight I realized that we should have checked on a ferry permit. On another occasion when we had trouble getting the nose gear down, the local GADO said that no permit was required. I relied too much on the chief of maintenance and should have looked into it also. The maintenance man said he also had forgot about it.
