Narrative:

Air carrier xx dove from above and perhaps 300' in front of us on the approach to runway 25L at lax. He had been cleared to follow us visually for runway 25L. We were cleared for ILS runway 25L expect sidestep to runway 25R. At no time did we sidestep for runway 25R--instead we took evasive action to the right to avoid a midair collision with the light transport. Also, the light transport started to miss his approach, then later continued for runway 25L. He seemed confused and perhaps did not have either us or the field in sight. Approach control informed me that the light transport did not follow their instructions and similar incidents have happened recently with them and other air carrier's.
