Narrative:

On the GA ramp: called ground, no response. Called tower, no response. Noted that this is a P/T tower. Heard on the radio, and visually observed, an small transport announcing and executing a go around. Looked for other traffic, there was none. Broadcast intentions and took off. No other aircraft was inconvenienced. Could have been prevented if tower had announced: 'aircraft calling...carrier only, no modulation.' I did carry a hand-held backup radio, which could have been used. Upon return to home airport. Promptly arranged with radio shop to take care of the matter.
