Narrative:

I was working high altitude (FL240 and above) sector 3. Sector 14 is adjacent to the north. I noticed a limited data block of an aircraft southbound at FL240 on the sector 3/14 boundary. I brought up a full data block as the aircraft entered sector 3's airspace. I instructed my d-side controller to call sector 14 and inquire about the aircraft. He did and a handoff was accomplished. The handoff was accomplished only after the aircraft was 9 mi inside sector 3's airspace. The aircraft did not conflict with any other aircraft or terrain and safety was not jeopardized. It was determined that the sector 14 radar controller had made an error due to distraction of a heavy workload in the sector. The sector 14 controller's supervisor took action to correct his mistake.

Title: ACFT PENETRATED ADJACENT SECTOR AIRSPACE WITHOUT A HANDOFF.

Narrative: I WAS WORKING HIGH ALT (FL240 AND ABOVE) SECTOR 3. SECTOR 14 IS ADJACENT TO THE N. I NOTICED A LIMITED DATA BLOCK OF AN ACFT SBND AT FL240 ON THE SECTOR 3/14 BOUNDARY. I BROUGHT UP A FULL DATA BLOCK AS THE ACFT ENTERED SECTOR 3'S AIRSPACE. I INSTRUCTED MY D-SIDE CTLR TO CALL SECTOR 14 AND INQUIRE ABOUT THE ACFT. HE DID AND A HANDOFF WAS ACCOMPLISHED. THE HANDOFF WAS ACCOMPLISHED ONLY AFTER THE ACFT WAS 9 MI INSIDE SECTOR 3'S AIRSPACE. THE ACFT DID NOT CONFLICT WITH ANY OTHER ACFT OR TERRAIN AND SAFETY WAS NOT JEOPARDIZED. IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE SECTOR 14 RADAR CTLR HAD MADE AN ERROR DUE TO DISTR OF A HEAVY WORKLOAD IN THE SECTOR. THE SECTOR 14 CTLR'S SUPVR TOOK ACTION TO CORRECT HIS MISTAKE.
