Narrative:

I was cleared for the ILS to runway 30 at lgb. When they contacted me they advised me to circle to land on runway 25L. After landing I cleared the runway by turning on runway 34R a closed inactive runway. According to the aim you should not turn on an active runway after landing unless instructed by the tower. Normally I ask the tower, but the frequency was busy. This seems to be local procedure at lgb to taxi on the inactive runways. I feel the aviation publications should explain the local procedures so that all pilots can be aware of them. I know these procedures because I fly in and out of lgb everyday. I feel this would enhance safety.

Title: GA SMA UNAUTH TAXI RWY ENTRY.

Narrative: I WAS CLRED FOR THE ILS TO RWY 30 AT LGB. WHEN THEY CONTACTED ME THEY ADVISED ME TO CIRCLE TO LAND ON RWY 25L. AFTER LNDG I CLRED THE RWY BY TURNING ON RWY 34R A CLOSED INACTIVE RWY. ACCORDING TO THE AIM YOU SHOULD NOT TURN ON AN ACTIVE RWY AFTER LNDG UNLESS INSTRUCTED BY THE TWR. NORMALLY I ASK THE TWR, BUT THE FREQ WAS BUSY. THIS SEEMS TO BE LCL PROC AT LGB TO TAXI ON THE INACTIVE RWYS. I FEEL THE AVIATION PUBLICATIONS SHOULD EXPLAIN THE LCL PROCS SO THAT ALL PLTS CAN BE AWARE OF THEM. I KNOW THESE PROCS BECAUSE I FLY IN AND OUT OF LGB EVERYDAY. I FEEL THIS WOULD ENHANCE SAFETY.
